Once consumables are defined, it is the time to configure how a Thing uses consumables, this can be done by accessing the Insights / Consumable Mappings page.
For each available Consumable, you can define which metric provides the information on the amount consumed, if the Thing Definition uses it.
Edit Consumption
To define how a Thing Definition uses a Consumable, you should:
- Enter the Insights / Consumable Mappings page
- Select the Thing Definition you want to configure.
- Press the Add Consumable Mapping button.
- Select the Consumable.
- Select the Metric providing the consumed quantity.
- Press the Save button.
Note that, the metric associated with a consumable must provide the absolute quantities of the consumable between each metric publication. This avoids computing wrong quantities, even if a single data is lost due to transmission problems, device reboot or other unpredictable causes, in this way it is enough to wait for the next value. The DPS application will automatically collect these values and compute the used consumable aggregated by customer during each day.
