Migrating to Product Models

Environments present before the release of this feature (April 5, 2024) use an inventory management of things based on the thing definition. This means that when a new thing is to be registered, the right thing definition has to be selected. Now, thanks to Product Models, you need to select a Product Model, which is an easier concept for DPS users to understand, instead of the Thing Definition, which is closer to a developer.

In the Console, by entering the Overview / Advanced Settings of your Environment, you can find the Thing Inventory Management option.

By switching to By Thing Definition And Model, in the DPS you can start using Product Models, and migrate all the registered Things by associating them to the right Product Model.

When all Things have been migrated, you can switch to By Product Model, and in the DPS, the concept of Thing Definition will totally disappear.

• When registering a Thing you must select a Product Model.
• When creating a Thing you must select a Product Model.
• When searching for Things, you can select a Product Model.

If you have statistics based on Thing Definition name, you can update them to Product Model name.

Into pages, you can display Model information by using the Product Model Details widget.
